What memory should I get.

I think I just tracked down an ongoing problem that has been driving me insane.
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...00#post1549700
Looks like the memory I got on my new build is incompatible with something between my mobo and FC16.
This is the memory I have currently http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231468
It is rated up to 2133 but in FC16 I can only run 1067. I have tried a number of voltages from 1440 mv to 1580 mv and over 1067 it just will not run stable.

I have the EVGA Z68 SLI mobo with a 2600k CPU. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188097
Does anyone have any recommendations for new memory?

Re: What memory should I get.

Why is this moved to the lounge? This is a technical question that is fully linux related.
The more I look at this the more I would like to know why I am only having this issue in FC16. This seems like a bug of sorts.

Are you arguing with me?.

If you can prove that running linux affects RAM frequency/timings I will eat my Fedora

What do you want to do with your system?

Running linux doesn't effect ram freq/timings.
Something in FC16 is not responding well to my memory and apparently my RAM frequency/timing/voltage is effecting my ability to use FC16. Since I did not have this issue in FC14 yes I am saying it's specifically related to FC16.

Back to the origonal topic I have gotten some help on the EVGA forums and have found out that much over 1.575 volts to the mem can actually be bad for the mobo. I took the voltage to 1.62 volts and was able to jump up to 1333. After reading that high of voltage could be bad for the mobo I started backing it off. I am now down to 1.584 v and back up to 1867 mhz and it has been running fine all night. I think I will be able to run this memory once I get it dialed in.
Still don't understand why it didn't cause problems in FC14 or why more people haven't seen this issue.

Re: What memory should I get.

Fedora has nothing to do with your DRAM speed. No kernel/OS sets that, it all in the BIOS/UEFI.

Yes differnet kernels and different programs will exercise different adresses more/less heavily - and often the speed limitation is a function of the addresses selected.

You should ALWAYS run memtest-86+ when fussing with component speed. Once you have some memory timing that SEEMS stable - then run memtest-86+ overnight as a burnin procedure.

I've never used an EVGA board, but their very low prices always give me concerns about quality.

I never said the OS has anything to do with setting any of the properties of the memory.

First off I wasn't messing with anything. I was using all default bios settings. Voltage was left default 1.5v and default the bios set the freq at 1600 when the mem and the mb are rated to 2133 so I wasn't overclocking and had no reason to believe it would have any problems. On top of that I had run memtest twice, not all night but through a full mem test with no problems.
