F14 kernel had to be recompiled, trouble loading network module thereafter

On this machine

uname -a
Linux host01 2.6.35.14-96.PhenomX4full.fc14.x86_64 #5 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 12 10:40:59 EST 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I had to re-build kernel to switch from modern 1394 driver to legacy to allow dvgrab/kino see the camera.
Since then Realtek network driver r8169 no longer automatically loads. I did not change kernel configuration for r8169.
When

sudo modprobe r8169

it starts up and everything works fine until the next reboot.
How should I cause r8169 to load automatically every time? It messes up auto-mounting of Windows shares...
