change the font in text mode

hi,all.I'm using FC14 with text mode. And the default font is so ugly. I downloaded the MONACO.TTF and copied it into /usr/share/fonts/monaco and run the fc-cache monaco. Then i use the command "setfont monaco" || "setfont monaco.ttf",it said that it was not able to find the file monaco. What should i do?

Re: chage the font in text mode

You can not use TTF fonts in a runlevel 1 or 3 console. You can only use "console" fonts. Use,
Code:
ls /lib/kbd/consolefonts
to see what you're choices are. When you find one you like, you can make it default by editing the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file and changing the SYSFONT= line to the font of your choice.

Re: change the font in text mode

Using setfont while in terminal can also change the font per session. (By terminal, I mean text mode)

You can look in /usr/share/fonts for a list-- many folks like the various terminus fonts

Re: change the font in text mode

terminus-fonts.noarch <== These are for use in X11 and install to /usr/share/fonts/
terminus-fonts-console.noarch <== These are for use in a Linux console (no X11) and install to /lib/kbd/consolefonts

Besides being a generally good looking font, the terminus console fonts also give you a much larger range of font sizes to choose from than the standard installed bunch, most of which max out at size 16. The terminus console fonts take you up to size 32.
Quote:
: The sizes present are 6x12, 8x14, 8x16, 10x20, 11x22, 12x24, 14x28
: and 16x32. The styles are normal and bold (except for 6x12),
: plus EGA/VGA-bold for 8x14 and 8x16.
