Nvidia Driver (kmod-nvidia or akmod-nvidia) not working on GT555M

Hi,
Ive been trying to install the nvidia driver on my Alienware M14X which has a Nvidia GT555M. I have tried twice from a fresh install, and this is what I've done.
(1st try)
1) Update fully
2) yum install akmod-nvidia
3) rebuild the initramfs (dracut)
After this, I got an error at boot which says something like MUX Signal error and the system does not boot.

I went over to the IRC and some kind souls helped me out and suggested that I do the following (and I did)

1) Update fully
2) yum install kmod-nvidia

Essentially, they said I didnt need to build the initramfs again. Having done this, I rebooted, and I got exactly the same results (the MUX error). I would like some insight into what is happening here. Can I expect it to work? Is there any way of going back to the nouveau driver?
Regards,
Soumen

It's not clear to me that you performed all the steps needed to properly install the nvidia driver. Take a look at Leigh's procedure here and try this if you haven't already:

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752

If you want to go back to nouveau make sure it is not blacklisted and remove nomodeset in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg and not blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d, then uninstall all nvidia related packages "rpm -qva |grep nvidia" (to see them) then rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf to something else.
