More details needed. Specifically your video card info, the installed video drivers etc.

Offhand it looks like you have a missing font to me. Not sure how you change fonts in Gnome 3 to one you have installed.

ok so i guess i turned off the gnome 3 "look" and its more of a gnome 2 look now and everything is working... which is fine because the gnome 3 / unity style annoyed me a little bit.

still tho i would like to understand why the gnome 3 issue was present. i'm guessing video drivers and or gnome 3 problems
