Based on the opening post I could risk saying that the OP possesses an excellent command of current English idiom, i.s., the internet newspeak for illiterates...

Heh--I think that's the only one the OP made, we probably scared them off. I _did_ say they might be educated in the US....wow, we sound like a couple of old people. Well, I am one, but.....still, never thought I'd be one talking about the bad habits of those durn kids.

The internet just barely makes tolerable the cultural wasteland where I am now. Nature is

Thanks for the link; sci-fi, broadly defined, is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

Good Lord, man! Do you hear yourself?! This isn't the likes of bodice ripper romance or tortured-plot mystery we're talking about here. Nor is it the perfidious sop of Sword & Sorcery!

Sci-Fi ... IS! And well that it should be! It stands above. Meet the challenge. Stand tall in your appreciation.

Re: I just want to complain

I concede the guilt is a function of my inbred cultural snobbery and a rigorous classical education. Happy now?

Ecstatic! Thanks! <....>

Carry on.

Re: I just want to complain

Well, the book I recommended is actually more under the classification of fantasy than science fiction, broad label is probably urban fantasy, though it's generally a rural environ, including the Sonoran desert.

More lowbrow than highbrow, I suppose, which describes me these days too.

Well, first of all, I'd like to say Thank You Very Much and a Happy Yule Tide to all the hundreds (thousands?) of developers who made this thingummajig that is loosely called GNU/Linux possible.

...and secondly, well, uhmm, there is no secondly.

The line :
I'll take a stab that he's referring to Distrowatch's hit list., which is hardly a true indicator.
I took that to mean it was the first distro he tried that worked from install.
