genpkgmetadata always running when using yum to install

Every time I go to install a new package, genpkgmetadata always runs. This grinds my machine to near halt, response is very slow. Not sure when this started but installing a single package should be quick.

Eg just installed wammu - took about 5 minutes while everything else becomes unresponsive.

What is wrong. Has some new configuration option been updated during a system update? Currently running FC16 but this also occurred in FC15. I have been running FC since at least 7.

Docs suggest genpkgmetadata is used to build repositories.

Do you have

If so you might set
