Graphics card driver not loaded on installation...

Hi - wonder if anyone can help me out here. I did a fresh install of Fedora 16 from CD on a desktop machine with a clean 400gb hard drive and the first couple of attempts hung up half way through as it wasn't loading the correct driver for the Nvidia graphics card. So I tried installing in reduced graphics mode and that seemed to work. Now trying to install the Nvidia driver which I copied into my Downloads directory. Have put myself in the sudoers file and able to shut down X (sudo init 3) but when I try to cd to the Downloads folder on the command line, it repeatedly says the directory doesn't exist although I do ls and its there.
Forgive me if I'm being thick here - I have used Linux before but I'm a bit rusty on command line stuff. Tried using su, and changing folder permissions and have read loads of help files but can't find what's happening here!

Re: Graphics card driver not loaded on installation...

Are you doing "cd /Downloads", when you should be doing "cd Downloads" ?
You don't use a leading "/" when the directory is a sub-directory of the directory you're in.
Unless, you preceded the / with a period: "cd ./Downloads"

For nvidia driver, you should be following this guide instead of installing manually yourself.

Thanks PabloTwo, I knew it had to be something simple. Looks like I need to get myself up to speed on command line stuff! I found the guide you referenced after I posted, so I'll try and install the driver that way. I've decided to get a better graphics card now so I'll wait till that arrives before I do it.
