disable ABRT daemon

All those nautlus & rhythmbox ABRT messages are bloody annoying.
I've tried to disable the abrt service with sudo systemctl disable abrtd.service without luck.
Next time I boot the system the service is loaded again.
Did I took the wrong approach to disable the service?
Or am I doing something wrong in general?

Re: disable ABRT daemon

I have fought the abrt system several times in cases where it ate my core dumps despite my shell settings. Like you, you mess around a bit, it seems to work for a while, but it doesn't, really.

After the fourth time or so I got so tired of it, that I simple removed all abrt* packages.
That seems to do the trick so far

Re: disable ABRT daemon

disabling and then stop the service didn't solved it.

Guess a yum remove abrt* is inevitable.

Re: disable ABRT daemon

I just got rid of Rhythmbox

I know, that's a terrible solution, but that thing crashed constantly for me. I prefer Clementine anyway.

Besides that, I think the best way really is to just get rid of abrt anyhow, unless you find yourself using it.

Re: disable ABRT daemon

Haha! I love systemd.

I think it has something to do with the wantedby parameter:

Code:
[root@riverrun ~]# cat /lib/systemd/system/abrtd.service[Unit]
Description=ABRT Automated Bug Reporting Tool
After=syslog.target

[Service]
Type=dbus
BusName=com.redhat.abrt
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/abrtd -d -s

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Re: disable ABRT daemon

Hello Readers,

I got rid of abrt messing with the system by disabling all the abrt services, which on my Fedora 16 are:

abrt-ccpp.service
abrtd.service
abrt-oops.service
abrt-vmcore.service

They weren't all running, but I stopped and disabled them all with the systemctl command. Ben.

Re: disable ABRT daemon

Yes, you have to disable all of the abrt services, as nsnbm stated above, PLUS, you need to stop the abrt GUI from starting when you start Gnome/KDE whatever...

You can run gnome-session-properties and deselect the abrt GUI from starting with Gnome.
