Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

Plymouth themes use different plugins. They are located in /usr/lib64/plymouth/.
I am using a theme using the plugin 'script' without problem. You tried the theme solar that uses 'space-flares' without problem.
May be the problem is relative to the plugin. Could you report which one it is?
For instance, if your theme is solar, it is the entry 'ModuleName' in '/usr/share/plymouth/themes/solar/solar.plymouth'
For grub, maybe it is really grubby that is guilty...

Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

Switched to spinfinity.

Code:
[root@phenom15 glenn>$ cat /mnt/temp/usr/share/plymouth/themes/spinfinity/spinfinity.plymouth
[Plymouth Theme]
Name=Spinfinity
Description=Simple theme that shows a rotating infinity sign in the center of the screen
ModuleName=throbgress

[throbgress]
ImageDir=/usr/share/plymouth/themes/spinfinity
Is this what you mean? I'll be away from the 'puter for the remainder of the evening. Back on early in the AM.

FWIW, I'm posting from F15 on the same box now since I can't get into F16.

Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

Yes it is. So the plugin is 'throbgress'.
Waiting for the OP to see if it is the same...

Second link mentions a patch. I have no idea how to use it

Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

So it is the throbgress plugin that is buggy. If you want to use the patch, download the plugin sources. They are with the plymouth sources, but I think you can compile them separately.

Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

So I was playing around while logged in at runlevel 3 and decided to reset the Plymouth theme back to solar. I then rebooted and was able to log in. Of course I now have 4 menu entries for the one kernel version. Lets see where it goes from here.

It seems to be contagious, you have two entries for the same post...
Just run the command from comment #2 to rebuild grub.cfg and remove the duplicates.

Re: Multiple fedora grub entries because Plymouth

I've stated that resetting the theme to solar allowed me to log in to the desktop. Now I find that running grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg removed all but one of the multiple menu entries on my Fedora 16 box. Things are back as they were.
