yum issues on FC3

I just finished an install of Core 3 on my T30 laptop and cannot seem to get Yum working. I've downloaded the latest yum.conf and configured the repos that I want to use. Following is the error that I receive when running 'yum update':

Repository updates-released already added, not adding again
Repository base already added, not adding again
Setting up Update Process
Setting up Repo: dag
repomd.xml 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
Setting up Repo: fedora-unstable
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: fedora-unstable
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from fedora-unstable: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I didn't have this problem with any Yum repos on Core 2.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the quick response. I did a search before posting this but didn't find any issues like my specific issue. Looks like I missed one, though. I'll take a look at it.

Thanks!

Again, thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I'm even more confused now after reading that post. I've been trying to get this working for a couple of days and it's really starting to get frustrating. I may try for another day or so but then I'll need to install a different distro. I have a lot of work that I need to get done.

Is there a reason why yum is configured differently in Core 3 than in Core 2? It worked so well in Core 2. I was really quite happy with Core 2 but Core 3 has done nothing but frustrate me.

Thanks.

Ok, it can work in the old manner.
So please do what I asked you and copy your unstable lines from your yum.conf here, so I can see where the problem is. The new yum need a directory called repodata. If it's not there yum won't work.
Copy&paste the relevant part of yum.conf or uncomment the fedora-unstable part!

yes there are.
I have a quiz for you:
Find RPMS.unstable here: http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/fed...fedora/3/i386/
If you have sucess, then you'll get a cookie

To be serious: uncomment this lines.

ilja:

Thanks for your help. What lines do I uncomment? Am I to uncomment the unstable lines?

I apologize for being such a pain in the ass about this.....I'm just not understanding how all of this works. I came from Slackware where we didn't have any package management to speak of.......

Oh, you want me "comment" the lines. I thought you wanted me to "uncomment" the lines.

Thanks.

oh, well......

After doing that, it still errors out. I've spent too much time trying to get this to work. I may install FC3 on a test machine and play around with it a little more (maybe). I'm going to install slackware on this machine because I need to get some work done.

I'm still not sure why yum configuration was changed? It worked so well on FC2, why change it?

Thanks for all the help.
