External Monitor on Thinkpar w510

Hi

I have a 19inch Samsung SyncMaster 920w monitor connected to my Thinkpad W510 (which has a 15.4 inch screen)

The external monitor maxes out at 1440x900 (16:10 aspect ratio). It does not support ANY 16:9 ratios. I tried changing the monitors.xml file under gnome but that crashed the output, and Gnome reverted to the default.

The resolution is not really a problem until I launch Vinagre the vnc client. My remote work machine that I use for work, has a vnc set to 1600x900 (for my laptop and Windows). If I move the Vinagre window to the External monitor and go FullScreen, I get 1 inch exactly onto my laptop monitor (i.e. the VNC extends across the external to the Laptop Monitor)

This does not happen with TigerVNC OR on Windows - I suspect it might be with the 16:10 ratio on the Monitor OR with Vinagre itself....

Anyways how can I set the External Monitor to use a 16:9 ratio? Or force it to do 1600x900 ?

Thanks
Anup
