Hello,
I upgraded from FC15 to 16 on my Dell Studio 17 lt. I was previously running GNOME 3 on 15 using the 11-10-x86.x86_64 ATI Catalyst driver. This worked pretty well.
After my upgrade, I saw a blank screen on reboot. No problem. I moved xorg.conf and restarted to use the default graphics. When I started GNOME I was put into fallback mode. Ok I thought, I'll just reinstall Catalyst and be on my way. Found an updated version 11-11 driver. Cool. Installed it, reboot and ... blank screen.
So ATI does not have a Catalyst driver for FC16 yet. But I see that FC16 is distributed with open source ATI driver. I have verified that this Radeon driver is indeed loaded.
So my question is why do I get put into fallback mode? Does it mean that the distributed Radeon driver does not support GNOME 3? Or is there some other reason I am put into this mode. If it is because of the graphics driver? Is there an alternative driver I can install that will provide GNOME 3?
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. I was really getting into GNOME 3 on 15 and I hate the prospect of having to use fallback mode until I can get the right Catalyst driver.
Thanks!
