Assuming you mean Gnome 2, it's not possible. You can use the extensions to make it look somewhat like gnome 2, but Gnome 2 is not easily available.

To install Xfce, start the add/remove software dialogue and look for the xfce package category. When you find it, install from there.

Hi,

If you truly want to see the Gnome 2 interface on a recent Fedora (and not the quirky XFCE), then:
- watch closely for MATE which will likely be in the upcoming Mint 12, and
- lend a helping hand when somebody attempts a Fedora MATE spin-off.

WWell,

Re: how install gnome classic in fedora 16 ?

I had a quick look at F16 with the beta version (clean install) some weeks ago. It happened that after boot I got dropped into the Gnome Classic because of some error I can't remember any details of. If I remember correctly I also could select "Gnome" and/ or "Gnome Classic" during graphical login.
I assumed that would be standard option somehow (my real F16 upgrade is scheduled for one of the upcoming weekends) as I planned to use that.

You are referring to the "fallback" mode of Gnome3.

It isn't a complete Gnome2 workalike by any means.

This tells gnome3 to use fallback mode:
Code:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session session-name 'gnome-fallback'
Separately, in case you are interested, please find my interim solution at
Code:
    http://formosa.homelinux.com/pub/fedora/gnome2/GNOME2.F16.html
also on Fedora forum
Using GNOME2 on Fedora 16

Why should it work precisely alike? Its an updated version of gnome-panel, which is the defining feature of gnome2.
