How do you check your sound card settings?

I was wondering what do you use to check your sound card settings?
Things such as: what type of driver do i have installed or you can say what version of alsa do i have and how do i configure it?

I've installed openal via yum but i don't know how to test it or whether i have to configure anything to make it work.



I guess this is the next level on my journey in learning linux and also i just purchased the logitech z-5500 THX sound system which i would like to use in lilnux, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably System Settings > Soundcard Detection.

In a terminal (System Tools > Terminal) run

rpm -q alsa-lib

to find the installed version of alsa.
