Yum: "...was supposed to be installed but is not!"
I had some problems with eclipse so I wanted to remove it then install it again, well after I removed it and tried to install it again yum tells me this:
Code:
Running Transaction
1:eclipse-pde-3.6.2-5.fc15.x86_64 was supposed to be installed but is not!
1:icu4j-eclipse-4.2.1-2.fc15.x86_64 was supposed to be installed but is not!
1:eclipse-jdt-3.6.2-5.fc15.x86_64 was supposed to be installed but is not!
tomcat5-jasper-eclipse-5.5.31-3.fc15.noarch was supposed to be installed but is not!
1:eclipse-rcp-3.6.2-5.fc15.x86_64 was supposed to be installed but is not!
1:eclipse-platform-3.6.2-5.fc15.x86_64 was supposed to be installed but is not!
I saw another post that suggested a fix:
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/sho...d.php?t=269029
but that didn't work for me.
What does yum even mean when it says that? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Just to check: how did you remove eclipse?

Re: Yum: "...was supposed to be installed but is not!"
I tried it from the command line with "yum remove eclipse" but that didn't work so I did it through the GUI add software program.

Re: Yum: "...was supposed to be installed but is not!"
I don't know why what you have tried does not work. I think next, personally, I would first try:
Code:
su -c 'yum clean all && rpm --rebuilddb'
Then I would see if this command reports any problems:
Code:
su -c 'package-cleanup --problems'
I would also try
Code:
su -c 'yum erase eclipse-pde icu4j-eclipse eclipse-jdt tomcat5-jasper-eclipse eclipse-rcp eclipse-platform'

The first command gave me:
Code:
[root@localhost brodie]# yum clean all && rpm --rebuilddb
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Cleaning repos: adobe-linux-i386 fedora google-chrome google-musicmanager google-talkplugin ksplice-uptrack livna rpmfusion-free rpmfusion-free-updates rpmfusion-nonfree rpmfusion-nonfree-updates updates
Cleaning up Everything
The second:
Code:
[root@localhost brodie]# package-cleanup --problems
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Package libpanelappletmm-2.26.0-2.fc12.x86_64 requires libpanel-applet-2.so.0()(64bit)
And finally:
Code:
[root@localhost brodie]# yum erase eclipse-pde icu4j-eclipse eclipse-jdt tomcat5-jasper-eclipse eclipse-rcp eclipse-platform
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit

And now when I do:
Code:
yum install eclipse
It installs!!! I think the last one fixed it up, thank you very much!
What could have caused that to happen?

In short, I have to admit I don't know -- somehow the yum cached data and the rpm database got out of sync with each other I guess.
Glad you've got it sorted, though.
