F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

Just wondering if anyone else has had issues running Gnome mplayer under F16?

I am wondering if my problem is due to a bug in gnome mplayer or if it was caused by my selinux issues when I was installing things during the alpha.

mplayer runs fine, but the gnome mplayer has issues and won't even start.

I tried removing gnome mplayer and installing it again, but still having issues with it. (also had issues with some empty xml files belonging to gnome mplayer as well.)

I tried completely disabling selinux, removing gnome mplayer, all the empty xml files for gnome mplayer that I could find, and then reinstalled it. Still empty xml files and gnome mplayer won't start.

I haven't seen any other issues related to gnome mplayer, so I am thinking it's something messed up here, but was just looking for some confirmation. For all I know, there may not have been issues reported because nobody else uses gnome mplayer

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

mplayer, or gnome mplayer?

My mplayer works fine here, but gnome mplayer won't even start up. Just sits there when I try to start it, then after a few seconds the process just ends.

I do get a couple of errors, though

Code:
(gnome-mplayer:1955): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: Settings schema 'apps.gnome-mplayer.preferences' is not installed

(gnome-mplayer:1955): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: Settings schema 'apps.gecko-mediaplayer.preferences' is not installed

(gnome-mplayer:1955): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_settings_get_key_info: assertion `settings->priv->schema != NULL' failed

(gnome-mplayer:1955): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_get_string: assertion `value != NULL' failed
I am really thinking it has something to do with that selinux mess I was was having when I first installed the F16 alpha. I believe it's time to blow out this install and grab the latest beta and go from there. I was planning to do that last weekend, but some things came up and I wasn't able to get it done.

The /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/apps.gnome-mplayer.preferences.xml and the
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/apps.gecko-mediaplayer.preferences.xml files were 2 of the files that were empty after installing gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer.

Strange thing, though. I was thinking it was a selinux snafu, so I completely disabled selinux. (That cleared up a lot of my other problems), but the gnome-mplayer issue remained. I have removed and reinstalled gnome mplayer a few times since, and still can't get it to work. I even removed gnome mplayer,, made certain the empty files were deleted as well, then reinstalled gnome mplayer, still the same issues.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

its the gnome mplayer, i am having trouble with. But i dida yum update and gnome-shell doesnt login. i should have read the forums.
its too late. i hope the fix comes early.
Had to stick with lxde, for time being.
even after i disabled the selinux, the shell is still dead, but its not the culprit now.its something else.

I should try more when i get back to my fedora computer.

but my gnome mplayer always starts.ther is no trouble in starting.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

thanks..

I am almost 100% certain now that something just got hosed when I was installing gnome mplayer here, and it's just something local rather than a bug in gnome mplayer.

I have been running with selinux disabled ever since the alpha due to a lot of problems with it, an dI didn't have any issues with the update to gnome 3.2. Maybe it was an selinux issue during the update that got you?

I don't know if you could go back and for a re-install of that update with selinux disabled if that would help or not.

(kinda like my issue with gnome mplayer. I believe it got messed up due to selinux issues when installing, and doesn't work now even if selinux is disabled)

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

Thanks detox.

I installed back during the alpha, and had selinux issues when I installed some of the audio/video stuff. I think it prevented something from getting installed that gnome mplayer needed. Even though I have removed gnome mplayer and re-installed it, it still isn't working for me. (I don't even get an icon for it in the applications overview. It shows up, but just no icon.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

I got those same packages installed here, Palooka..

Still, Gnome mplayer doesn't start. It must be something that got messed up during the install due to my selinux issues, may not even be a gnome mplayer package that messed it up. (I have removed gnome mplayer and reinstalled it after I disabled selinux, but still doesn't work)

I am still planning to do a complete F16 reinstall from the latest beta RC anyway, so maybe it will fix my gnome mplayer issue in the process. (I am hoping to get the reinstall done tonight)

I was just wanting to make sure it wasn't a bug in gnome mplayer, and if it was actually a bug, then I would report it in bugzilla.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

No bug. I'm afraid I suspect that the problem is user error.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

Try launching gnome-mplayer on its own, without trying to play anything.
If that works, and it only crashes when you try to play something, then load
up dconf-editor and reset all your changed preferences to the default setting.
I had a problem where I needed to do that and then reset my preferences.

Re: F16 and Gnome mplayer problems

It won't run either way for me. I get the same errors no matter if I open a file with gnome mplayer or run gnome mplayer on it's own without loading any file.

I had the beta dvd waiting on me when I woke up this morning, but got too busy to install it today. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to get the re-install done.

Looks like my selinux issues when I installed gnome mplayer got it messed up. I have noticed a few other files missing from other packages that were installed while I was having the selinux issues as well.
