Sata III controller Marvell 88SE9182 Can't be detected (on Rampage III Extreme Black)

Maybe this isn't the right place to post my problem.

I bought a Rampage III Extreme Black Edition wich has a SATA III controller (Marvell 88SE9182).
I try to install Fedeora Core 15, but FC15 just dont recognize any of my HDs placed in SATA III ports.
Has any fellow succeed installing linux on this SATA Controller?
I've googled but I just can't find anything about it!

Best regards,

Marlos

Re: Sata III controller Marvell 88SE9182 Can't be detected (on Rampage III Extreme Bl

I may not be able to help you much. I have another motherboard model from Asus which has 2 SATA III ports (and 4 SATA II ports) from Intel Z68 express chipset and another 2 SATA III ports provided by the same Marvell 9182 chip that your board has. I don't have any problems so far with all the SATA III ports. I haven't really tested the eSATA II ports yet from JMicron. Still, I can confirm the SATA III ports from Marvell work as expected (at least for my case).

Code:
[weitjong@igloo ~]$ lspci |grep SATA
00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation Cougar Point 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 05)
09:00.0 SATA controller: JMicron Technology Corp. JMB362 AHCI Controller (rev 10)
0a:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Device 9130 (rev 11)
May I know if your HD is larger than 2 TB? If yes, then your issue may be due to your new disk is too big for Anaconda installer to handle. I have a 3 TB harddisk and I have to "prepare" the disk first using parted. You may want to check my post in this thread. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=265760

Good luck.

Hi weitjong.

Thanks by your reply.

I've two Western Digital 450 GB Velociraptor SATA 3 HDs in RAID 0 on Marvell port.
I'm aware about all talk related to software raid suport by linux. Nevertheless, at least Linux need to "see" the HDs. Neither FC 15 x86_64 installer or FC15 x86_64 Live detect them.

Wich distro dou you use?

make certain that your SATA 3 controller is set up in your BIOS to be AHCI mode and not IDE mode.

HI DBelton.

My SATA 3 (6 Gbps) is set up to RAID (RAID 0)
My SATA 2 (3 Gbps) is setup to AHCI.

I am using F15 64 bit version.
I have not tried Raid in a while. But just wonder, have you configured the Raid array set using OptionRom provided by Marvell. I don't know exactly for your board but on the user manual for my board it can be accessed by pressing CTRL+M during POST.

I have not tried any RAID setup yet on my new board, so I am afraid I really cannot help you much there. I have the Asus P8Z68 Deluxe. I have tried RAID 1 on my old AMD board in the past using older version of Fedora (probably F10), I did not have any problem with Fedora installer then.

No problem! Thanks anyway!
Despite the RAID, I think that linux should detect the HDs at least. I have been through this before (another mobo and old Fedora) and it is what happend.
And because of that I think that the Marvell 88SE9182 is not supported by kernel!
