Install from USB - will this work?

HI All,
I am looking for some confirmation here to see if anyone thinks this will work:
1. I have basic boot image for F14 on usb. Created by downloading boot.iso and using LiveUSB creator
2. I have extracted disc 1 of the cd image using 7zip and I am going to copy to usb, then to hard drive of computer for new linux install once booted.
I wish to use the CD images because I already have them downloaded, and the DVD image is too big to download here.

I am using W7 to create cds from image files and I have tried this with new CDs, checked the checksum and I am getting fatal errors on install. I have tried downloading diff versions from diff mirrors and get the same problem but with different components so I don't think the "burn image to disk" function in W7 is doing a good job.
I am installing on i386 machine, going to setup as server for backup and internal webhosting.
Any helpful comments would be appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Install from USB - will this work?

A problem with Fedora's installation "media", especially the multi-disc variant, is that they are a snapshot of a Fedora release as of the day it was born -- which is to say (Fedora being Fedora), a quite buggy state. Some of the bugs, naturally, are not mere inconveniences, but security holes in Firefox and so forth. Already, Fedora 15's Updates repository (online) has repairs for ~1600 of Fedora's ~1900 packages.*

Since anything you install from CD media has to be updated from the internet anyway, you might prefer to download as little in the way of "CD media" as possible: just the Live CD (550 MB)**. It's easier to use, and less to throw away, than the full CD installation.

* By this logic:
$ wget -O - http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...ates/15/SRPMS/ | wc -l
1590
$ wget -O - http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu.../source/SRPMS/ | wc -l
1868

Yes but no but still yes. I've found liveusb-creator fails to find an OS on the install DVDs so it stops before writing anything. You'll have better luck with Fedora's live CD or DVD instead. You then 'yum update' and start 'yum groupinstall XYZ' to your hearts content on your newly installed system. And not on your live usb disk.

You do know there's a big "install to harddrive" icon on it's desktop. Right?
