fedora 15 internet unstable
I bought a new computer. Fedora internet connection is very unstable, while windows 7 is running smoothly. When booting fedora and firefox internet works. But after a few minutes or seconds the connection breaks. I have no idea what to do. Help is needed.
My computer specs:
modem/router: fritzbox for WLAN 7170 (wired connection)
Intel core i5 2500k 3.3 GHz
XFX Radeon HD 6790 1 GB
Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (rev 1.0)
Fedora version: 64 bit. (installed from live version)

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
I have a similar problem using my Sierra Wireless 890 AirCard (cellular modem) in Fedora 15 Gnome. If I leave the computer for a few minutes, Network Manager says I am still connected, but I have no internet connectivity. I did not have this problem in Fedora 14 - albeit with a different laptop and differerent Sierra Wireless 881 AirCard.
I can't reestablish the connection without shutting the computer completely down. Even a restart doesn't work because my card is not turned off by Fedora. If I restart and boot into Mageia, I cannot make a connection, but if I shutdown, then power the laptop back on and boot into Mageia I can make a connection.
I see others posting similar problems. I believe Network Manager is not yet ready for Prime Time. If you use KDE, kppp should work well - that's what I use in Mageia. Not sure what Gnome has to offer. I know I am not going back to wvdial. Too primitive for me.

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
I hope to get some help in this case, because it looks that internetconnectivity is unstable in ubuntu too. Without internet linux is useless.

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
Internet is stable for me in Mageia 1 (KDE) using kppp. Haven't tried the Gnome version of Mageia.

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
I had similar problems too with mobile broadband. However, yesterday an update has put it right!
For wired connection, I have figured out that you need to create a new wired connection/DSL connection, and connect through it, instead of connecting automatically. This works fine with me.
May be this is a bug, and we are waiting for the fixes.

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
Yesterday's update didn't help me. I finally broke down and filed a bug report.

is ipv6 support enabled ?
right now almost no one is using ipv6 yet
fedora and firefox both do a ipv6 dns look up FIRST then that times out and then dose a ipv4 look up
that might be your problem

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
I did not create a new mobile broadband (3G) connection with nm-connection-editor, but I don't connect automatically either.

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
connectivity is still a problem and don't know it anymore. Please comment.
what I did:
create a new file /etc/modprobe.d/ipv6
file ipv6 contains: install ipv6 /bin/true
" lsmod | grep ipv6" shows that ipv6 is not active anymore.
however: connection is still crappy. My lspci output:

Re: fedora 15 internet unstable
I now totally removes NetworkManager by typing: yum remove NetworkManager, so only wicd is active. However the result is the same: internet for a very short time.
So it is not NetworkManager and it is not the Ipv6.
I have two failures that showed up.
1. sometimes when starting wicd I got the comment about D-bus interface failure
2. When sometimes starting up a live cd I get a message of MSI X failure.
Can there be the problem?
