Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
This will probably help:
Code:
yum install pavucontrol
then: Then chose the correct input/output devices and adjust your settings.

Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
Is this a laptop or are you plugging in a mic to a jack on the soundcard?
What is the output when you run
Code:
cat /proc/asound/cards
Also after you adjusted the settings to your desires in alsamixer you should run to prevent settings to reset on the next boot.
I wouldn't swear on it, but I really get the feeling that the wrong input device is chosen somewher along the line.

HDA NVidia at 0xf8000000 irq 20

Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
Your front mic, line and mic channels ARE muted. Unmute by pressing 'M' while having the channel selected.
Also, the beep channel is muted, but I wouldn't worry about that

Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
Well, that might depend on many different things. I don't know what setup you have.
But a fair guess is that you have been cranking up the volume real hard, on all instances, diuring the process of solving this matter, and that you just experienced a nice audio feedback when you hit that magical unmute-button.
It happens every now and then, when your mind is elsewhere, and it alwys scares the ***** out of people.
Anyway, now when you have your sound going, you should start adjusting the input volumes so that you have a good signal without distortion.
The levels should not go all the way up.

PCM is the sound you hear from soundfiles from your computer, mp3:s, ogg:s, soundtracks in movieclips, dvd:s etc. The other ones should be more obvious. Mic is mic input on your actual soundcard, line is line-in, also on the card.

Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
Er, I guess you could turn up the mic level some more.
Use pavucontrol for adjusting the input signal, since you will have a meter there showing you your levels as you speak into the mic.
Just try those sliders and find your way, since the real issue about having no sound at all, is solved.
Don't really know how things look inside Skype, but I do think I remember some settings having to be made in there as well.
Maybe the documentation might be more helpful.

Re: Fedora 14 Microphone
Sorry, I don't use Skype, and Twinkle I don't even know what it is.
However: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1...kype-for-Linux.
If the advices on the skype site don't help you, I suggest you start a new thread about your issue with Skype, so that eventual Skype-gurus might come to your assistance.
Good luck!
