Shutdown time unusually long and suspend not working.

Hi,
I am using Fedora 15 KDE 32-bit. I am facing a problem while shutdown. It takes unusually long to shut down. It reaches the blue screen with the fedora logo within a few seconds, but it stays on the blue logo screen for 2-3 minutes before shutting down.
However, I am facing no problems during startup.

About suspending F15 KDE. It goes into suspend successfully but after switching on after suspend, it just shows an unresponsive black screen.

Is anyone else facing the same problem and has it been solved before? Because I haven't come across many posts regarding F15 KDE.

Sorry for the long post and Thanks in advance.

You can press the Esc key to see what's actually going on, the blue screen with the Fedora F symbol is just a cover screen (you can do a similar press of Esc to see what's going on behind the plymouth screen at boot up time)

I have done that too. All I see is a black, blank screen. Also I would like to add that it doesn't take so long everytime, sometimes it shuts down quickly, but it most of the time takes very long.

Re: Shutdown time unusually long.

I noticed unusually long shutdown times on my Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 too. This happens when I have a lot of background applications and click shutdown.

So, I tried manually closing all the background applications and then hit shutdown. It seemed to have done the trick, my shutdown time is around five seconds now.

No apology necessary.
Is this computer on a LAN? If so it's possible you are sharing a partition on another host on the network and it's using the "lock" feature of the network file system -- nfs -- mount. If this is the case try umounting the offending partition before shutting down.

I at the most keep the terminal and choqok running while shutting down. What background applications should I close? And should i use the killall command for closing said applications or something else?

My computer isn't on LAN.
However, I ran an update and things seem to be running better after that. Thanks for the help

Background applications like:

Tor, Vidalia, Polipo, Terminal, Gnome Do, Redshift, Any browser windows (sometimes despite closing Firefox, it still remains open when I check the System Monitor), WorkRave etc .. of course, they might vary depending on the user
