ATI IGP 345M & External monitor problem (n00b)

I'm new with linux, and just installed FC2 on my Compaq Presario 2542EA laptop. It has ATI IGP 345M graphics chip. I have external monitor plugged to the laptop and now I only can get the same resolution (1024x768 - the best that the LCD can do in my laptop) to both the LCD and the external monitor. What should I do to be able to turn off the LCD and use the external monitor with 1280x1024 resolution, or both at the same time with 1024x768 in the LCD and 1280x1024 in external?

In addition to this, I wondered if anyone has gotten the IGP345/340M 3d work properly so that I could play quakeworld with in linux with 500hz mouse

Try the attached xorg.conf. I'm using this and I've got my laptop monitor runinng at 1024x768 and an external monitor running at 1280x1024 using xinerama.
