Question One computer with more than one IP address

Is it possible to setup one compuer with one network card to have more then one IP address? (I have RH80, installed as a server).
If it is possible, I have a next question: is it possible for different programs on this computer to serve thses different IP addresses (as it would be with different ports on the same IP address)?

This is done on routers quite often to migrate addresses. linux can be used as a router, so maybe you can put multiple addresses on a nic. They would have to be in differnet subnets. As for your second question, yes, but only if the programs are going to machines on different subnets.

You can put multiple IPs on a NIC, but you have to map them to "aliased" interfaces, like "eth0:1" and so on. This is pretty easy to do with the Network config GUI, but you have to remember to use an alias, not the "base" eth0.

Absolutely. In Linux, this is done by creating alias devices like eth0:0 for the new addresses.

Most servers can be told which addresses to bind to. Apache can serve different sites on different addresses. Or even run multiple instances on different addresses. I see no reason why you couldn't run Apache on one address and another web server on with a different IP address on the same port.

Thumbs up

yups I would agree to that...

plus the way you places the question, it seems you want to run multiple sites on the same...

You can setup multiple CNAMES (Host aliases) in ur BIND/DNS to direct to a single IP...

Later accept these requests for different websites using Host Headers...
