Remmina is terrible! rdesktop is worse!

All of the RDP programs have terrible problems!!!

Run ANY of them against valgrind and you get an endless stream of errors

I can't run any of them without wedging up my X server.

VNC clients work great but I need RDP! Any help?

I don't know what to tell you because Remmina became my favorite yesterday after a 24hr conenction without me swearing once. I assume you installed the plugin for RDP. Others include gnome-rdp (it will pull in mono

) and I find it not bad but not smooth either, krdp (kde app), and good old rdesktop at the command line (past favorite).

All those programs use the same freerdp library. Run under valgrind and you will see the same errors for all of them. Uninitialized data all over the place

The code is quite scary, sucking data from buffers without checking sizes. There are even comments in the code about how crappy it is. Also look at bugzilla, lots and lots of random crashes.

"It works okay on my machine" is not helpful.

Makes sense, I've yet to see a gnome app that would shutup. Try a java based rdp client for sh1ts and giggles? Else run with windows rdp client. Then again you can always help out and clean up their code.

The gnome part is working just fine, it's freerdp that needs help

Clearly you haven't looked at the code. "clean up" is not what it needs. "rewrite" is more like it.

And besides if I fixed everything in Fedora I had a problem with, I'd have to quit my day job.

Again clearly you haven't scoped it out. None of those projects have been touched in years and years. You think I'm gonna get any help with them?

The whole point of the exercise is that there are no Windows systems anywhere near my desktop. If there were, I wouldn't need an RDP client!

Dies, what is your setup?

I have no problems connecting to 32-bit windows XP systems

But 64-bit Windows 7 is another story altogether

To all: sorry about my rant, an rdesktop crash took out my X server, and along with it went my VMware Workstation and 8 virtual machines and hours of automated test results. When all was said and done, a days work trashed from one crash. Grrr

I think the problem is with windows 7 graphics updates not being parsed correctly in freerdp. The code is running off the end of the received buffer and attempting to parse uninitialized memory. Hopefully I can find the right place to make it wait for more data.
