Flashing / Flickering Screen F15 Samsung N130

Hi Guys, first post so here goes....

I have installed F15 on my Samsung N130 and over come various issues including getting the WiFi card to work.

The problem I can't seem to overcome is that the screen occasionally flickers uncontrollably as if it is trying to reset the brightness.

I have tried to alter it manually but the bar moves all over the place and I can't control it.

The only way I have found to stop it is to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del and then cancel the logout box.

The netbook uses the Intel 950 graphics chip. And I am using Gnome 3 as the interface.

Has anyone had this issue. Is there a solution?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Flashing / Flickering Screen F15 Samsung N130

I'm not sure if the problems are connected but maybe the information will give you a little insight. On my desktop computer I have an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS attached to a 32" Sony Bravia TV. With the default nouvea driver it would cause the screen to flicker every 10 to 15 seconds. From what I could tell it was related to the panel sync. Either way, when I changed to the official drivers from Nvidia the flickering went away. I don't know if any of this information will be of assistance to you but I figure it wouldn't make things worse.

Hi I have a samsung nf210 netbook and had the same problem, I got round it by going to - "applications"-"system tools"-"system settings"- in the personal section under "SCREEN" I unchecked the "dim screen to save power" option. hope it helps

Many thanks for the replies.

I did a similar thing to you BovrilBoy and unchecked the setting to dim the screen.

It worked in so far as it no longer goes crazy trying to set a screen brightness level.

However, if I try to go in and manually adjust the brightness with the slider it starts flashing and flickering again.

I guess I will just leave the slider alone and let it set its own level.

Apart from that I am loving F15.

I dont use the slider any more , I googled samsung-backlight.c and downloaded it , There are instructions for fedora 14 online and all you have to do is compile it then copy it to the kernel (you have to do it everytime theres a kernel update). It allows you to use the Fn key and up&down to set the screen brightness, I dont know if i can post links to outside websites on this forum but it doesnt take long on google to find the complete instructions
