Sudden boot problems :(

Out of nowhere, my laptop kinda crashed (all windows disappeared, just left looking at my desktop background, with my mouse, couldn't do anything though)
So just turned it off, then when it tried to boot came up with the message:

mount: wrong fs type, bad superblock, on /dev/mapper/vg_linuxlaptop-lv_root,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

umount: /sysroot: not mounted

_Fedora-14-i686-: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)

Dropping to debug shell.

sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
(Repair filesystem):/#

Tried typing dmesg | tail, can't find tail
Not gonna lie, little bit out of my depth here :/
Any ideas?

Re: Sudden boot problems :(

When you turned off your computer the hard way the filesystem got corrupted, since Fedora had not the time to write outstanding changes to it. You should do as advised in the message and run fsck manually. Hopefully it will be able to fix the inconsistencies in the filesystem.

Re: Sudden boot problems :(

You got to be kidding me, just tried typing fsck again (have tried it before) and it still came with errors here and there, and all sorts of stuff I don't understand, but this time it seems to have worked!

Re: Sudden boot problems :(

Yeah, I also had such a problem some time back. Needed to run fsck a couple of times but then everything was ok.

Re: Sudden boot problems :(

I've the same problem, the shell is now quite restricted.
Another author (Fedora 15: won't boot after hibernate) reported this problem and link it to "hibernate" function.
I will try runnning fsck.ext4 manually, and feedback the forum.
