GDM Failure

I've been running F15/Gnome3 on my desktop and laptop machines for over two weeks with no problems, but as of this morning I get no login screen on my desktop. The last lines on the screen are:

Not sure if the last few lines are related to vbox or not. I've been getting vbox errors during boot all along but never failed to to get to the login screen. I last installed updates on 6/17 and it booted fine on the 18th & 19th. I have not deleted anything or changed any configurations.

I've been checking the screen output on my desktop, and I don't know if this is related to my problem but after cron ran some jobs:

After some experimentation it seems that video output and not GDM is the real
problem. I think it all boils down to this:

From a prompt in runlevel 3 I could not start GDM, KDM, or X, I got the same errors as above.

I saw something during boot 'Videocard666' and that didn't look right. Checking an old xorg.conf my video card was listed as 'Videocard0', so I made an xorg.conf moved it to /etc/X11, but still no graphical boot and the same errors. Maybe the system doesn't read an xorg.conf any more.

And if not I need to find out what it is reading to get my video display configuration, because that file is obviously fubar. Any ideas?

I tried everything I could think of to get X working again on my desktop machine and was about ready to give up and do a clean install of F15, then I tried one last thing. I ran X -configure. The last lines of the operation were:

[EE] [drm] No DRIcreatePCIBusID symbol
Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices.
     Configuration failed

My heart sank, but it did create the file xorg.conf.new in /root, so I took a look and it is the longest xorg.conf I've ever seen. It lists 5 monitors, 5 video cards, and 4 screens, so I figured I'd have to make a lot of changes and comment out a lot of things, but to start with I renamed it, copied it to /etc/X11, rebooted and walked out of the room expecting nothing.

When I returned... no way! There was the GDM login screen in all it's glory! Ah, the sweet smell of success!
