Grip: poor mp3/ogg quality

I've installed lame and tried to rip CD's. Encoding mp3 and ogg worked well, but the quality is extremly low. I already encoded with lame on fc2, and the sound quality was great. Is there a way to improve encoding quality? Or perhaps the problem is the ripper (i tried cdda2wav and cdparanoia)?

Maybe the problem is from the Codec

For lame use version 3.90.3
For ogg use AutuV Version

or you just have a low bitrate.....when encoding
or even the source is not from a original CD and you are transcoding...

bitrate is at 128, what should it be?

At least 192 in a constant bitrate mode

At least 160 in a variable bitrate mode
