F15 gnome desktop - no icons

Hi All,

Just finished install F15 x64_86. In using the gnome desktop I don't see any icons, nor can I place any.

I'd like to have file manager, trash, links to documents and other files available but not in this case.
I use the machine for email and mythtv-media server. Think I might have better luck switching to the i386 version?

I reset owner and mod permissions on /home/todd just in case, I also tried deleting the .gnome folders (renaming them) and rebooting to see if that might fix things but no luck.

I even a right click on desktop doesn't activate any menus.

Is it reinstall time?

This is how Gnome Shell's desktop is meant to be (since you can't minimize windows, the desktop is more or less a void). However, if you install gnome-tweak-tool, you can turn the desktop back on. ...or you can install the "dock" extension for Gnome Shell, which places a smaller copy of the Dash on the desktop.

Just a curious question, what happens when you slide the cursor over to the far left side of the screen, does a docking bar come up?

Hi,

Install the Gnome-tweak-tool (search for it in the repositories).

Open it, click on File Manager on the left column. Toggle 'Have file manager handle the desktop' to ON. You should now see the My Computer etc icons on your desktop and you can customize it to your liking.

for my current install no. But I've only been using fedora since fc2 so I'm no expert on the subject of it.
