Where to find information about system crashes?

Hi!

I randomly get system crashes of a fresh Fedora 15 install.
I cannot reproduce, however.

Where would I find information on system crashed (kernel panics)?

Regards,
Philipp

Re: Where to find information about system crashes?

if abrt catches them, you can look at them in the abrt viewer in Gnome.

Otherwise, look in /var/log/messages for information on the crash.

You can also get more info by editing your /boot/grub/grub.conf file and on the kernel line, removing the quiet parameter

Re: Where to find information about system crashes?

Thanks for the hints!

I removed the quite parameter and here are the logs:
dmesg, /var/log/messages

Do you need anything more?

Philipp

Re: Where to find information about system crashes?

those logs don't show a kernel panic in them.

(dmesg gets reset on each boot, and /var/log/messages gets rotated every once in awhile, too. So you would need to look at the log files as soon as possible after a crash occurs. )
