Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

There was not any issues installing Fedora 15, the touchscreen worked out-of-the-box .
However there is no accessibility options at login screen/lock screen which makes using a tablet very insecure. A bug report has been made

For the time being I am keeping ubuntu as that does have the accessibility options.

Multi-touch,gestures and autoscreen rotation does not come out-of-the-box , nor do those features come with ubuntu out-of-the-box.

Nor do they come any other way. No matter how I tried i couldn't manage to get the multitouch working at all. The problem is with the display that Acer used for w500 - the system sees it as a single-touch touchscreen.

ah, hopefully a driver will be written in a future kernel release .
Have you managed to get auto-rotation working? or even manual rotation?

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

Haven't really tried it yet... I just do not really need screen rotation, as I am very used to landscape layout.

Guys from ubuntu forums are working on the special drivers fro the eGalax screen on ASUS T101MT with a bit of success, however these support gen 1 and 2 eGalax touchscreens (device ids 0eef:0001 and :0002), not Acer's 0eef:7302 ... Guess, i would try porting these to fedora including the multitouch handling script, but not sure whether i could indeed get it working. So, i do also hope kernel support in short time. Or at least more up-to-date prop drivers from the vendor (http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalax...inuxDriver.htm) ...

Hi allix. How did you install Ferdora on the W500?

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

I downloaded the gnome livecd iso from one of the mirrors on the official site and made a bootable live usb with Fedora live-usb creator. I installed over the whole partition.

Last week I sent some information to enac who make the multi-touch drivers, so hopefully in the not too far distant future, multi-touch will work.

I have found the driver for the accelerometer , which should make autorotation work.

http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalax...inuxDriver.htm

They (eeti) have a new driver since ... euhm ... today !!
I just gave it a shot on SuSe (also on w500), but it doesn't seem to work.
Can you give it a shot on fedora? And let us know the result?

Is it supposed to be Synaptic or evdev? (or something else or next to the question, whatever ...)

---------- Post added at 07:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:15 PM ----------

did you get the accelometer going? -- a little guide maybe

by the way I use (correction "I TRY to use") OpenSuse with Plasma, same problems with login and passwords off course.
Want to get touchegg going ... any other idea's welcome
?

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

The new drier is not working due to calibration troubles. I guess it is related to bug with screen size determination - it is always counted as 2048x2048 (for me), but setting custom screen area size just gives a partially working calibrated region where touch (and multitouch as well!) works, but now the whole screen region.

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

NEWS !!!

I got into contact with eeti, they sent me a new version of the driver precompiled v1.05.4425
so far it is still unusable, due to a (probably) bug that reverts x direction.

Hopefully I get some more goodies from them!

Does anybody know if this eGTouch driver (generally not specific this version off course) is integrated in some project?

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

There is a patch in progress to get multi-touch working

I wonder if any pressure sensitivity would be added by a multi-touch driver, the ASUS T101MT has 256 level of pressure sensitivity which has a Egalax touchscreen, of course its not going be anything like wacom or even n-trig.

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

Hi allix !

I am very interested by this tabblet, but only if I can run it on linux ( of course ! ). It's look like it's already possible, but I'would like to ask 1 or 2 questions about it :

- What's your feeling about AMD drivers ? is C50 enough to activate 3D desktop ? (like KDE plasma desktop, not to play 3D games but just for interface enhancements)

- did you you try to play HD videos ? (so that you don't have to re-encode them between TV, tablet and phone formats) => does it works well ? sound is ok ? ...

- does C50 have good performances ? .. maybe you could post /proc/cpuinfo ?

- do you have the dock with keyboard ? does it works fine with linux ? can you hot(un)plug it ?

Thanks !

Re: acer iconia w500 tablet

Hi GRRosminet,

I have not tried the 3D desktop, it should work fine once the fglx drivers are installed. I am hoping fedora 16 has plasma active 1 as that is optmised for the touchscreen.
HD video plays fine on vlc.

I have the dock with the keyboard which works fine with hot-swapping. Its not the best designed dock , there is no way to adjust the angle of the screen on the dock. On the plus side, two usb slots and a ethernet port are added.
