Fedora 15 Shutdown process hangs if the laptop lid closed

Hi everyone,

I have Fedora 15 installed on HP pavilion dv6t. Normally when I close the lid the computer goes in suspend mode. However if I shutdown using Alt- "Power Off" link and then start closing the lid, the shutdown process hangs, displaying the fedora logo indefinetly. I have to shut down using the power button.

This looks like a bug to me. Are other people experiencing this or is this just me?

Yes, here is one also. This is happening to my workstation. At first it was working just fine, but then after some updates, this problem appears.

It sounds like you have the same problem that we have. This is a kernel/ACPI problem, please join here and share your experience so we could help debug the problem:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33872

Thanks.

Re: Fedora 15 Shutdown process hangs if the laptop lid closed

try to use suspend option instead of hibernate option in lid close. Based on my experience Gnome 3 is showing bad behaviour in lid close hibernate. Change the power setting and instead of hibernate use suspend. it will work

I have this issue too - but it happens when the lid is open. This is on an HP HDX 16

I assume you are in GNOME Shell. Open up to the top right corner menu and hold down the "Alt" key on your keyboard. You will then see the option to shutdown.
