wobbly windows and other desktop effects?

can "wobbly windows" and other desktop effects be utilized, or did that all go away in f15 and gnome 3?

i successfully enabled nvidia graphic driver, but i'm not versed in the technical lingo to understand the online discussion that is taking place on this topic.

Those effects are part of Compiz and are therefore precluded when running Gnome Shell. Mutter and Compiz do not play well together, so if you wish the old compiz effects, you will have to install the Compiz environment, and log into it instead of Gnome Shell.

Thank you. That is what I thought by reviewing the threads, but I just wasn't sure, so thanks for the clarification.

Effects like those are not crucial for me, so I'll just stick with gnome 3 as is.....Incidentally, I really like F15.

Re: wobbly windows and other desktop effects?

Some food for thought here, though. I really like Gnome 3 overall. The simplicity and fluidity is great. But it seems to me to be a step backwards to take a simple and fluid UI and regress to choppy movements. I am a musician. Aesthetics are important to me. It helps to create a more relaxed and focused temperament when working, if visuals work smoothly. And wobbly windows actually have a smooth, polished look about them. What we have here is much choppier.

I never thought I'd really feel so strongly about what I thought was just eye candy, but now that I'm without w.w., I find it somewhat irritating to see this choppiness.

So my suggestion is this: in future incarnations of Fedora, if it is possibly, please try to find a way to at least have the option of something smooth-moving like wobbly windows.

Re: wobbly windows and other desktop effects?

I thought it was choppy too, but once I enabled my nvdia graphic driver the visuals and overall visual experience of F15 was a heck of a lot smoother and more responsive.

Without my nvidia driver enabled the windows floated on their own, and they almost seemed to drag and sputter.

Nonetheless I agree with your comments -- wobbly windows was/is aesthetically pleasing, and without it, it does feel a bit on the retro side.
