Gnome3 Custom Application Launchers

Hi All

I am running Fedora 15 and Gnome 3, most of which I like and is working. However I can't seem to add a custom launcher or if I install a application and the .desktop file is created and placed in ~/.local/share/applications the application is not appearing in the search for that application. How do I add a custom application to the list of applications installed?

Thanks

David

Re: Gnome3 Custom Application Launchers

Alternative (and easier way) to achieve it:

1. Install Alacarte menu editor
$ su -c "yum install alacarte"

2. Start it with Activities -> Applications -> Main Menu
or Alt+F2 -> alacarte

3. Use the "New Item" to add an application to the group you want

Re: Gnome3 Custom Application Launchers

Hi Mikka

Thanks for your reply. I installed alacarte and ran the program, the installed program appeared as expected under the category it should be under but it still does not appear on the Actvities -> Applications list or under the same category. The application in question is the NetBeans IDE and other custom applications I have.

How can I get them to appear in the Activities -> Apllications list.

David

Re: Gnome3 Custom Application Launchers

I am not experiencing the problems you have. This is what I do:

-Select group from left, e.g. Games
-Click New Item
-Fill out info
-Go Activities->Applications. Now all applications disappear for a moment and then I can see my new item.

Maybe try logging out and back in to update the Applications menu?

(side note: I don't think my name has even been written correct on these forums. What's up with english speakers and double i's and k's )
