    Question How to disable gnome effects 3?

    Hello! How I can disable or modify the shadows, delayed menu, animations etc. in gnome 3 on Fedora 15 Beta? It can make or have lost some of our freedom?

    If you don't like gnome shell, you can use Fallback mode. To do this: system settings-> system information-> graphic--> forced fallback mode -> ON

    You have always the freedom to use the desktop environment you like most

    That is not an acceptable solution. I like Gnome 3, but really want to change the annoying effects (lag when sliding windows, slow motion popups, no ability to minimize windows and get them out of the screen, inability to modify the top panel, etc). I like the "Activities" layout, but as far as I'm concerned everything else needs a lot of work.

    Gnome 3 has potential, but it has a LONG way to go.

    You need to install Gnome-Tweak-Tool and explore some of the extensions that are available now. This should take care of several of your issues.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

    EDIT: That did it!

    Hey!
    Could you please write a few words on how exactly you disabled the effects and what you used to do it?

    Thanks!

    Re: How to disable gnome effects 3?

    Hi,

    I am also looking for a way to disable the effects especially the fading.
    I can not find any setting in the gnome-tweak-tool that deals with that.

    Exclamation Re: How to disable gnome effects 3?

    I found it! To change the default fade effect, modify the following file
    Code:
    /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/windowManager.js
    *line 15,16, 17

    Code:
    const WINDOW_ANIMATION_TIME = here;
    Code:
    const DIM_TIME = here;
    Code:
    const UNDIM_TIME = here;
    Do not forget alt + f2 and r or log off to see the changes.

    I have not tried everything, but it is a good start.

    Don't know if this thread is still active but:

    I opened all the files, and looked at all the the TIME constants and set them all to 0.001 (well make sure that what you change makes sense).

    I have to say, it works great while having all the functionality of the new shell.
    (yes I do think it is functional for the most part)

    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    There should really be an option to remove all the effects. I want the new look, just my graphics card has trouble handling all these effects with a large monitor.
