Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
Is it just me or when gnome 3 dims the screen to save power on battery when the laptop is idle, when you start using again, it doesn't un-dim? Its supposed to go dim on idle and then bright again when you start using it, thats how gnome 2 always behaved for me. Is there anyway to fix this?

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
not just you, no:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=689896
(note my comment there that we may actually need a new report for this, I'm waiting for the maintainer to reply).

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
I figured out what was causing this and fixed it, filed upstream as https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=650405 . I'll put up a Koji build in a bit for anyone who really needs this fixed right now.

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
Here it is:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/t...taskID=3077414
click on the appropriate link for your system (i686 or x86_64) and install the gnome-power-manager rpm linked there, reboot or restart gnome-power-manager, and the issue should be fixed. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
Thanks, AdamW. Does it also fix restoring the brightness after turning AC power off and back on?

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
wizard: yup, it does fix that for me (it fixes both cases, idle and ac/battery - they're actually all part of the same function). let me know if it works for you, though, i'm sure i screwed _something_ up, i usually do!

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
So I published an official update with the fix here:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/upda...r-3.0.0-3.fc15
can you guys please provide feedback on that? It's identical to the 2.1.fc15 build but now submitted as an official update. Thanks.

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
Sorry for the delay, AdamW. It works correctly here, so I removed my script in /etc/pm/power.d. I'll give it a karma bump in Fedora Updates.
Thanks!

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
Official build works correctly here as well.
---------- Post added at 03:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 PM ----------
I've actually ran into a rather large problem with the proposed official build. My machine won't shutdown or restart at all. if I choose shutdown or restart from the menu, nothing happens. The screen dims and the shell just becomes unresponsive, and I have to hard reboot. If I try shutting down via the terminal absolutely nothing happens (the shell stays responsive when I do it via the terminal)
The scratch build did not do this, and I also went back to the old gnome-power-manager currently in the repos and it also does not do this.

Nevermind, I was able to reproduce this, even after downgrading and upgrading again, but out of the blue it seemed to totally resolve itself.

Re: Gnome 3 Screen Dimming
jesus: there's only one change in -3 compared to -2, and -3 is identical to -2.1, so whatever you're seeing, it must be something else...
