Geez, yeah, Stuck, but now I've gotta move the post over to the F16 Development Forum when I create one. More work, grumble, grumble....

Okay Greg, might as well get it started 8 months early (with usual delays included).

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

I am hoping that F16 will fix many of the idiosyncrasies in Gnome3. Even with fallback to graphics off, I have had to switch to xfce to enjoy Fedora15. A full gui display is great for a tablet, or pocket PC, but not for a 24 inch monitor on a developer's desktop.

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

So how does all this work? While its in rawhide stage is it just over in developer world or what? I mean, can know nothings like myself be lab rats at this stage of the game or do we have to wait until 16 Alpha shows up?

BTW, I loaded Ubuntu's take on Gnome 3 and ran it for awhile - for my own part, I think Fedora has them beat - I know, just an opinion, but its how I feel about.

Cloud Stack looks very interesting. Maybe it can start beating back the disease that is VMware.

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

troyatlarge: You can just enable the fedora-rawhide.repo in /etc/yum.repos.d and upgrade to Rawhide but caution rawhide can and usually will break hard so try at your own risk.

Besides that you can if you want also create a rawhide-current repository entry so that you can get packages soon after they are built from koji

Code:
cat /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-rawhide-current.repo
[rawhide-current]
name=Fedora - Rawhide - Current - Developmental packages for the next Fedora release
failovermethod=priority
baseurl=http://koji.fedoraproject.org/static-repos/dist-rawhide-current/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch
I am aware of at least one issue in Rawhide that one may need to fix manually.

The min_uid/min_gid were changed from 500 to 1000, so you would need to change your uid/gid to 1000 or higher or else you might not be able to log in and you may encounter other issues related to that change.

However issues like these are usually mentioned on the fedora-devel mailing list and how they can be fixed.

http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/

You will also face the usual broken dependency issues and much more.

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

i'd wait for the Alpha when all Features will more than likely be in the Alpha, its a waste of time to install rawhide now IMO

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

The documentation for installing Cloudstack contradicts it's self a number of times about whether it requires vSphere and vCenter. Can any one confirm that they are not needed or is Cloudstack really just a wrapper for VMWare?

Only RHEV will have the enterprise penetration to do that, Citrix solutions are becoming less and less competitive in the enterprise market. VMware is scared sh!tless over RHEV and even employ some smear tactics.

I wonder if GNOME 3.2 stops the prop. driver issues?

Re: Fedora16 Release Schedule

So the release is scheduled for 2011-11-01? Funny I was curious and checked distro watch and it said today of all days, what a coincidence.

I'm in no rush to upgrade, just curious. I think the next Ubuntu will come out near the end of October so it will be released around the same time as F16

They should push it back to 11/11/2011

On a more serious note with that, KDE 4.7.3 is supposed to come out that same day. Maybe if it is pushed back slightly it would give more time to prep an upgrade that users can run to upgrade to this version.

I know 10 days may not be enough to include it in the release, but it could help allow an upgrade sooner after the release.

I figured that much. I know Ubuntu usually comes out at the end of the month the version is named after from what I observed. I don't know about Fedora.
