Switching from java sun to jdk to fix minecraft

So I was using Minecraft and it was working just fine, but then I got a rather common error. The fix is always to switch over to java sun. I did this, but now it has a black screen when I start the game. I realized after this that I hadn't tried simply reinstalling minecraft. reinstalling it did not fix the new problem. Can anyone tell me either how to switch back to jdk or how to fix the black screen?

Thanks

Re: Switching from java sun to jdk to fix minecraft

Welcome to the forum

When you install / change java etc.. you should always restart or it wont work.

To remove the sun java
Quote:
su -c 'yum remove jre'
and to install the open source
Quote:
su -c 'yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin'
And if you want to install sun again i suggest using fedoraplus or easylife to install and set it up for you..

Re: Switching from java sun to jdk to fix minecraft

Thanks guys, those were both really helpful. That alternatives page had the answers and fedoraplus is fantastic.

If anyone else has this problem and finds this thread, the best way to fix this issue isn't to uninstall Sun java or jdk. One can easily switch back and forth between the two.

Quote:
alternatives --config java
Enter the number of your choice and then restart
