Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
Hello again.
Remember me from F14?
A new release and a new set of issues getting rid of nouveau.
I've tried the obvious and I still can't get the Nvidia binary to install.
Even after blacklisting nouvea in grub.cong and in modprobe,d/blacklist.conf
the driver refuses to die quietly.
While it sure would be nice if they'd fix this once and for all, but until that happens has anyone managed to get the nvidia driver to install on F15 beta?
thanks once again...

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
Yes, I did but it's content doesn't apply to what I am trying to accomplish.
It refers to the rpmfusion repo.
Thanks anyway,

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
i know what your trying to do but are you doing it right? you dont need to blacklist nouveau before you install the blob driver. by installiing the driver from rpmfusion will automatically blacklist the nouveau driver.

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
I'd prefer to not use a third party driver when I can get one directly from Nvidia.
With the Nvidia driver you have to disable nouveau ie: blacklist in /boot and /modprobe.d
before it will install. I thought it would be the same process as in F14, but not the case.
Could rdblacklist=nouveau really need to be rdblacklist=Nouveau or somethink like that?

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
RPMFusion == NVidia. ??
Really? I didn't know this, Do you have any info to support this?
I've heard fallout that the rpmfusion nvidia drivers do not fully support the product's 3d acceleration hardware as well as the Nvidia specific drivers do.

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
OK well, um thanks I guess. But for those reading I still need to figure out how to disable the nouveau driver.
Any takers?
BTW: RPMFusion doesn't have F15 support as of yet, (at least not that I can find) so the idea to install their code is moot at this point.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
Did you bother to look at Leigh's thread? http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752 RPMFusion does have the drivers and will install them for you, if you follow the instructions.
Okay, I've played with the akmod-nvidia install without success, I'll admit. I'm sure it's my botch though. Within the next 48 hours, the kmod-nvidia will be ready for the latest kernel and I'll give that a try.
Oh, and as far as disabling nouveau, that's mentioned in the thread as well, so before going further, I'd at least give it a look and perhaps a try.

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
Yes I did, and regrettably, that post doesn't apply to F15, even though the steps work for F14 they do not work for F15 in disabling the nouveau driver.
Even if I did want to install the rpmfusion drivers, they do not exist for f15 at the present time, at least I haven't been able to find them.

Re: Help on disabling Nouveau on F15
The script for F15 are there, but they don't achieve the desired results.
When I run the Nvidia setup script it reports the noveau driver are still active.

all you have to do is follow leighs F15 howto an you'll be up an going in no time. i dont know why you persist in using the Nvidia installer from the Nvidia site when the rpms do the exactly same thing but easier for the user to install. do you somehow think the nvidia driver from the Nvidia site isnt third party software and the one from rpmfusion is?

Because I'm told the Nvidia drivers have better 3d acceleration hardware support, and I'd prefer to avoid 3rd party drivers when drivers direct from the mfg. are available.
