no video in xine

as you can see, i'm new to this forum, so hi everyone.

i am having trouble playing dvd's in linux. so far i have tried mplayer and xine. i have had more success with xine (i can hear the audio from the dvd), but there is no video to be seen. does anyone have any suggestions?

originally i couldn't even get the audio working but then i changed the video input device to /dev/cdrom. this doesn't seem to be a good solution though.

i have a samsung combo drive.

thanks in advance

evan

I dont use xine. I use Ogle and Totem for my video needs. If you already configured your yum you can install totem: yum install totem or yum install ogle_ugi

You are probably missing a plugin for xine to work.

try to launch xine like this : xine -V Xshm or change the video driver in preferences setting to Xshm (i think that you are using XV driver ...)

hope it helps,

that works. thanks.

although the video quality isn't very good. is this due to crappy drivers for my video card, or something else? i installed the ATI DRI drivers. is there anything else that i can do to make the video quality better?

There are the official ati drivers, but I don't know how to install them!

I think they're called fire-glx or fire-glrx

do a search on this page!

Do you keep seeing a blue screen with xine?

If so, and your using Nvidia's drivers, try this option in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (in the Device Section):

Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"

It sorts out xv rendering for me in xine and totem, but makes avidemux2 do strange stuff.
