Video conversion hardware speed test

Reference http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=261196

As promised here is the video for the test, it is 41 mins long and 82mb, it is legal, and a load of rubbish..dont bother watching it

Its important we all use the same method, so i suggest to start with we all use devede on its default settings except check multicore optimization, erase temp files, iso image and not using any external drives, and not use any other apps etc.. in the test.

I think ive covered the important bases, feel free to comment

Re: Video conversion harware speed test

Oh....kay. CentOS' version of gtk is too old for devede to work.

Does this have to be a Fedora installation to test? My only decent Fedora machine is at work and I can't really do this at work.

Re: Video conversion harware speed test

Interesting results so far, what i would expect, except for you Leigh, yours should be faster (have yo got thermal throttle on in bios or running effects), i have also worked out that roughy every process running adds 1/2 a second to the time, except for dropbox which seems to add 3 sec's.

Re: Video conversion harware speed test

On SL6 (compiz, firefox & thunderbird running)

Time devede took =2:33
CPU Speed =3.5Ghz
CPU Cores =6 (cpuspeed disabled)
RAM =8Gb
RAM Type =DDR3
Arch =64

I also replaced the atrpms packages with f13 rpmfusion packages as they had broken multi-threading, it still took 6:03 till I disabled cpuspeed.
