Empathy i have noticed on startup is rather slow, im using the opensource nvidia drivers. i have seen other threads saying using the blob driver does make Gnome3 slow all together

Re: Empathy makes system slow

The Activities overlay animation is very slow and choppy with the binary drivers. Other animations like scrolling down the applications list of CTRL+ALT+UP or DOWN for changing workspaces is fine.

Actually it is not empathy, whenever i use an application that has a bottom right icon in tray (I also tried dropbox for example) the animations are slow, quitting and everything is back to normal.
