Fedora upsetting password on Next G mobile modem

I have a USB phone modem E160X Huewi type

It is supplied by iPrimus in Australia and connects to the Optus mobile tower on about 900 Meg frequency.

Fedora 14 is giving me trouble in that it will connect regularly for a time , maybe up to a month, and then I'll boot up and it does not connect .

Using the network applet I try disconnecting and reconnecting , editing the settings , allowing mobile modems and not allowing etc but it keeps asking for my password.

I edit the settings and put the password in right and it still asks for it . I answer the password when it asks and it still does not connect , time and time again. I have had this on about 4 occasions now and once it disconnects I cannot get it started again even as root.

The only way I have found is to plug it into a windows machine where it works immediately and then next day or so put it in the Fedora machine and sometimes it works .

I'm suspecting the tower must close me off after x tries if my modem ties to connect without a password and some how the password is being dicked around by Fedora

Can anyone advise me on what happens during this connection and what may be wrong ?

Re: Fedora upsetting password on Next G mobile modem

I use an Optus Mobile Broadband modem and have for a few versions of Fedora. I've never put a password in. As long as the APN is correct it will just connect. Maybe your problem is an iPrimus thing. My modem is a E160 which Fedora recognises as a E220 I think. I have got it with me at the moment to check.

Re: Fedora upsetting password on Next G mobile modem

Thanks ozjd .
On occassions the modem will just not connect . I leave it till the next day and all is fine again. Thats a nusiance of course so I would like to find out more . I feel it is the Fedora causing problems . For a start when I power up the computer the modem connects with the blue light showing then as Fedora continues its boot I see it disconnects the modem then reconnects it .

Re-setting it I suppose but thats two connections at this point , then the network controller trys to make its connection again at the end of the boot process. so I reckon thats the third try. If something goes wrong then I am running out of allowable connections .

Well thats how it seems to me butthat could be wrong . I was hoping someone with real knowledge of the process might come in and explain

I meant to add that you are quite correct . It does not seem to need a username OR a password . It just connects...
Thats when everything is working OK.
When I'm having problems connecting though it keeps popping up a window asking for the password and when given pops the same window again ad infinitum until the Network Manager says its disconnected. It does however change the password in the configurations to what you type in the box

I think when the window pops up it is the password manager asking for the password to access the password list. I don't know why it comes up as NM doesn't use it for Mobile Broadband. NM does use it for wifi though. I just cancel it.
