Vain attempt to install VirtualBox

I have added livna repo, though it's at the bottom of the list. PackageKit did find VirtualBox, but then after a few seconds it fails due to a kmod requirement i.e.
VirtualBox-OSE-4.0.2-2.fc14.i686 requires VIrtualBox-OSE-kmod=4.0.2
it stops dead in its tracks.

I would like to use F14 as my host OS, so what packages for VirtualBox (non-livna) would allow me to get started? The only other packages seem to say just 'Virtualization' but I have no idea how to proceed, and all the guides I've seen point to VirtualBox; hence it is my preference. This would be my first laptop that has enough horsepower to host, and that's why I've been reading the guided tours from others. Wish Fedora had a step-by-step too, in Fedorasolved or something.

BTW yum search virtualbox yields the output shown on http://fpaste.org/Y5Js

Re: Vain attempt to install VirtualBox

Is there a difference if I install my VM (VDI, or something) onto the LVM that my F14 had set up (this is about 16.5G inclusive of F14, with lots of free space counted in). The guides don't mention LVM at all, even...

VIrtualBox-OSE does not suport usb, there is a guide under the guides section here on how to install vbox
i believe, however fedoraplus will install and set up vbox for you with usb support if you dont
want the hassle..

Re: Vain attempt to install VirtualBox

I have the same problem, but with upgrading VirtualBox. Software Update tells me that there is an update for VirtualBox, but shortly after the it starts the process I get this message:

Code:
akmod-VirtualBox-OSE-3.2.10-1.fc14.x86_64 requires VirtualBox-OSE-kmodsrc = 3.2.10
VirtualBox-OSE-4.0.2-2.fc14.x86_64 requires VirtualBox-OSE-kmod = 4.0.2 : Success - empty transaction
WTF?

Yeah, then I tried the linked website above, and it installed. I'm just not sure how to proceed after that. Maybe after a bottle or two of brew I'll mess with it.

Re: Vain attempt to install VirtualBox

The most useful install page at virtualbox.org is
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads at the bottom of the page, where they show how to get the repo file and install it into Fedora. After that point you have a virtual box repository that you can update VirtualBox

I'd go to :http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/UserManual.html
and look in the sections
Starting VirtualBox
and
Creating your first virtual machine
