Cannot use gedit as Root

I'm trying to use gedit as root to edit some config files, but everytime I try to open it, I get this mess. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong and why? I had a similar issue with debian, and someone solved it by telling my to run gksu nautilus. I tried to run gksu gedit, but apparently that doesn't work on Fedora. I really like Fedora, and I want to stick with it, but if I can't edit these files, I'm going to have issues.

Thank you for the help.

Code:
[kevin@senbonsakura ~]$ su
Password:
[root@senbonsakura kevin]# gedit

(gedit:3851): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported

**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2270:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)

[root@senbonsakura kevin]#

Change your sudo environment:

$ su -
# gedit

Re: Cannot use gedit as Root

There's many similar posts about the subject (use the Fedora-Google Search to get them). You need to use "su -" , not just "su". Of course, if you'd searched ANY of the engines for "gedit", you'd have found the answer. On a brighter note, "welcome" to the Forum. We're not trying to nail you, just pointing out the fact that it's very seldom that a problem is unique.

This has been covered enumerable times before.

Code:
su -
It's the dash at the end that makes all the difference.

EDIT: Just noticed Bob and motnaph00's posts!

Re: Cannot use gedit as Root

I was about to reference the most recent gedit post but realized it was Kevin1a's first post.

Welcome to FedoraForum.

Re: Cannot use gedit as Root

Thanks, I feel like I've just discovered a giant hidden conspiracy in plain sight. It works, and now as soon as I fix my pulseaudio problems (wish me luck), I will have completed my Ubuntu>>>Fedora transition. No unity for me!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sorry I didn't search as thoroughly as I should. I'm already a little fruestrated, but I'll power through it with a little help from the forums and the IRC.
