FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

As I understand it, to get a clean install its good to fill your hard drive with zeros (takes hours), and then install Fedora from DVD without connecting to the internet and encrypt the hard drive. Only then connecting to the internet for updates.

The FC15 Alpha DVD requires an internet connection before installing with Anaconda. Is this going to be the case from now on, or just for this Alpha?

I have always done it WITHOUT an internet connection. Many, many installs, including on three computers in front of me.
That DVD does not require an internet connection in order to install. Try it.

A clean install is just an install that has had no changes made to it. It need not be encrypted, The hard drive doesn't need to be zeroed, etc.

F15 is still in development and, IMHO, you should file a bug report.

I was too late. Searching for "dvd install" comes up with similar bugs already filed for 15 Alpha.

Re: FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

The DVD for x86 asks for internet connection when custmozing which programs to be installed as an alternate repository, although it uses the dvd to install the programs.

Re: FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

It just seemed odd that a DVD wouldn't be enough room to do a basic Linux install, when a Fedora live ISO is 675 MB. It was originally a security question, and sometimes I don't have internet access, or its too slow/unreliable to do updates. I'm sure there are plenty of people who first tried Linux from what was only included on DVD or CD, and I really don't like the idea that a free and open operating system would be useless without $40+ a month internet access.

Re: FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

I'm not sure how old my alphas are--I've been a bit busy lately, but I"ve been able to install the DVD without an Internet connection. I choose minimal install, which may have something to do with it, but I don't set up the Internet during those installs, only setting it up afterwards.

My alpha is at least a week or two old, however, so this bug might have gotten in since.

Re: FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

I didn't need it previously either, so maybe it is something new.
As long as you don't change the repo settings, it shouldn't need an internet connection.

Re: FC15 Alpha install requires internet connection

It's just a bug, it's known. It's down to the change to how the installer is structured in F15.
