Re: problem in dell

not sure exactly what you need to do to get it working, but providing a little more info for someone else that can help you.

I believe your machine uses the Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g wireless, which needs an additional driver installed from the rpmfusion repo. (either the akmod-wl or the kmod-wl package, along with a few others that I'm not sure about)

Re: problem in dell

Hello saumyag

Welcome to the forum.

In Linux it is the chipset in the wireless device that counts, not the name of the card or the laptop.

You can usually get that information from:

Code:
lspci
from a terminal.

It should return, among other things, entries for two devices named either network or ethernet. If you copy and paste back those results then someone will have more chance of helping.

If you don't get two devices from that command, try:

Code:
lsusb
and paste back all of that. Some manufacturers have been known to solder usb devices to the mainboard.

Re: problem in dell

I have a Dell Vostro 1520 and I'm using the rpmfusion kmod-wl driver. So most likely this will work for you.

Enable RPMFusion repositories (I assume you are on Fedora 14):
Code:
su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'
And then install the drivers:
Code:
yum install kmod-wl
Or if you use a custom kernel:
Code:
yum install akmod-wl

               kernel-uname-r = 2.6.38.6-27.fc15.i686.debug
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Could you help me please i need this wireless badly and i´m new to Fedora.
Thanks.

Re: problem in dell

If you are sure that your wireless adapter can use the driver being discussed here (probably so), then try installing akmod-wl and reboot (some people have to reboot twice). Anyway, it will create the kmods needed by the running kernel.
