Hello yeyeming,

If you have a look at the the log file for X which is in /var/log/Xorg.0.log it may tell you what the error is, then perhaps someone may be able to help. You will likely need to get to a terminal to get the info. Ben.

Thank you for your reply,Ben. I have checked the log and can find nothing.Attachment is the Xorg.0.log. Is it possible that there are some system errors because i run many programs before i "kill the Xorg".

Re: cannot login into X window(screen turn to black before login screen)

Did you just do an upgrade?

I can only think of two possibilities:
1) You upgraded and your graphics driver isn't compatible
2) Your video card has two outputs... and the display is on the other connection.

#1 doesn't seem impossible, but still, I would have expected an error somewhere.

#2 would seem unlikely, but if you had a previously custom configuration with your monitor, it is possible that the display is connected to the second output port. Why this would happen I have no idea.

Thank you for your idea.I actually have two screens to display, but both of them became black before the login.
And may be there was someday i updated . the question is how I can replace the graphics driver using the original one in the fedora 14 DVD or Live-CD. I now can only check the system through Live-CD or rescued mode.

Re: cannot login into X window(screen turn to black before login screen)

First, i change default "init 5" to "init 3" in /etc/inittab. So i can entry the system. Then as well update the system.
Second,i install my Nvidia driver download from the nvidia website according to my card type following below:
1) Blacklist the nouveau driver: Add below line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file
blacklist nouveau
2) Rebuild the initramfs image file using dracut:
* Backup the initramfs file
$ sudo mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img.bak
* Rebuild the initramfs file
$ sudo dracut -v /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)
3) Reboot the system to runlevel 3 (without graphics)
4) Check that nouveau driver is not loaded
$ lsmod | grep nouveau
5) Run the NVidia driver package
$ sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run
Above command will create xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 directory which is responsible to use NVidia driver in X.
6) Restart the system and NVidia driver will be used now.

NOW,I still cannot login into the X widow given init 5 mode, the system stop going ahead after fedora start cache step.

I run the startx, the result is that "no device detected, no screen found".
I donnot know if the problem go worse.
