Saving data during a live session

I've got a Live14 DVD - boots fine
(I'd install to disk - but "You mess up my laptop and you're a dead man! Yes dear.)

#1 Is there any way (short way) to create a config file on the "other" system and access it so I don't have to reinit wlan0 (wep) etc. every time I take it to the coffee shop?

#2 If I were to partition & install, dual boot - what's the min disk space required?

Thanks

Re: Saving data during a live session

If you are using the LiveDVD image on a USB device, then checkout:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora...ta_Persistence

If you are using a (read-only) DVD, then you may be able to accomplish the same by creating a small parition on the hard drive for persistent storage... there are probably Fedora guides but a quick Google of "LiveCD persistent data" comes up with the Ubuntu thread which might be useful as well:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD/Persistence

(Note: if the Fedora's LiveCD already supports persistent partitions it is very unlikely they are labeled casper-rw as mentioned in the Ubuntu thread... not sure what it might be called in Fedora... if similar exists).

I have installed F14 (LXDE - and will be trying XFCE now) from the live CD iso to a 3.9 GB hard drive partition
running only 384 MB RAM . . . I have also included a 2 GB swap on the hard drive.

Really, I recommend getting use to the resize option in parted to resize the Windows partition . . .
I have been amazed how no damage gets done.
Once the laptop drive shows some free unused space then convincing others
to let you install fedora could be easier (???)

Good luck.

Re: Saving data during a live session

Use a USB flash.

At a minimum you can copy the /etc directory to it and them mount it over the read only /etc.

This gives you a place for your configuration files (well, most of them).

If you reboot, you can then mount the flash over the default /etc, and
restart the network (either network manager or network) and your saved network configuration will available.
